The day started with torrential downpours, and I do mean torrential! As we drove up to this August Black Diamond Lodge wedding, we wondered what the day (and weather) would hold for us.
Well, Kadyn and Dylan’s day turned out to be nothing short of magical for so many reasons!
We always love working with the crew up at The Black Diamond Lodge as well as the coordinators with The Perfect Day Company. They are pretty good at helping people have the most magical days. 🙂
Kadyn had a specific request to photograph her dress on some antlers. I love the way it turned out!
Her mom, Sarah, did a lot of the planning for Kadyn and Dylan’s big day. One special detail was that Sarah got to do Kadyn’s hair and make-up!
She also came up with the super fun idea to have the bridesmaids participate in a pillow fight before they got their dresses on! It was a really unique start to the day that calmed everyone’s nerves and got everybody giggling! Plus, how cute are they??
It was really sweet to watch Kadyn and all of her friends get ready. They helped each other with all of their final touches. Sarah commented on how characteristic it was of Kadyn to jump into help others before focusing on herself! I love this kind of friendship!
Once Kadyn was in her dress, it was time to head out to do a first look with her dad. It was a really special moment that I feel privileged to have witnessed. At first her dad couldn’t even turn around cause he just needed another minute.
After he saw his daughter as a bride and tears filled his eyes, they shared some really beautiful and tender moments together. You could very obviously see the love he had for his little girl and vice versa!
Then it was Dylan’s turn to see his bride! I appreciated that these two let me snap a couple of photos of his initial reaction, which was just pure awe by the way!
The first look was followed by private vows between just the two of them. I always admire when couple build time into their day for just them! It really slows down the day and helps them to focus on what the day is all about!
Theirs bridesmaids and groomsmen were a fun bunch and all of them looked so sharp! Huge fan of the suits and color of the dresses!
Remember how I said the day started off with a downpour? Well, welcome to summertime in Colorado! When the time for the ceremony came, it was as sunny and beautiful as could be! We also always need a shoutout for our friends at Mountain Belle Flower Farm!
Kadyn and Dylan had just about the cutest “Ring Security” team there ever could be.
I love the love in Kadyn and Dylan’s eyes!!
Honestly, an August Black Diamond Lodge wedding is pretty hard to beat. Look at the ceremony views!
And look at this kiss! Kadyn and Dylan just killing the game.
Another moment from this day that really stuck with me was right after the ceremony. Both sides of the family were silently embracing one another with happy tears for quite a while. It was a beautiful picture of these two families becoming one!
As we headed into couple portraits, some clouds started to come and go and I loved that it gave us some different opportunities for locations of these shots!
Honestly though, these two are so in love with each other that it would have been hard to get a bad shot of them. Watching them swoon over each other was so sweet!
It was time to head into the reception where the guests were greeted by these beautiful table-scapes by The Perfect Day Company!
Kadyn’s dad, Daniel, started the dinner off with a sentimental speech that didn’t leave many dry eyes in the room.
Then it was time to eat! Et Voila Catering provided the delicious dinner for this event!
We also got to work with a new-to-us vender! Taylor Altman was so friendly and engaging for every guest that came his way! Highly recommend hiring him for any future bar-tending needs!
After dinner, everyone headed down to watch the cutting of the cake. They had this AMAZING dessert spread set up that was literally making people stop in their tracks to admire it.
This super cute cake was done by the local bakery here in Durango, Mountain Dough Baking Company!
I love first dances, but what I might love even more is watching people watch the first dances. You could really tell how loved these families are with how emotional everyone in the room got.
Something that Daniel said in his speech was that their family’s first rule is simple: “Party!” And they definitely lived up to that rule!
The dance floor was filled so quickly and got even more lively with some confetti cannons!
It is never lost on me how special and unique my role is. For people to allow me to step into one of their most important days and capture all of the joy will forever be an honor. So with that I say, thank you and congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ballew!
